The Truth About the Parts of You That You Were Told to Hide
Somewhere along the way, many of us were taught to quiet ourselves.
To soften our edges.

To be agreeable.
To not feel too deeply, speak too boldly, or take up too much space.
Maybe you were called “too much.”
Too emotional. Too intense. Too intuitive. Too powerful.
And so, without even realizing it, you began to dim parts of yourself.
But what if those parts were never the problem?
What if the parts of you you’ve been taught to hide… are actually where your power lives?
This is the essence of the dark feminine.
What Is the Dark Feminine (Really)?
Despite the name, the dark feminine isn’t something negative or dangerous.
It isn’t evil. It isn’t something to fear.
The dark feminine is the part of you that:
Feels deeply
Sees clearly
Speaks truth
Sets boundaries
Trusts intuition
Refuses to shrink
It’s your inner knowing. Your emotional depth. Your ability to sit with both light and shadow without turning away.
While the “light feminine” is often associated with nurturing and softness, the dark feminine holds the equally sacred energy of truth, power and transformation.
She is the part of you that says: No more pretending. No more abandoning yourself.
She is the part of you that remembers who you are.
Why Society Feared Women’s Power
To understand why the dark feminine has been so misunderstood, we have to look at history.
There was a time when women who were deeply intuitive, connected to nature and skilled in healing were respected. But over time, that power began to be seen as a threat.
During events like the Witch Trials, thousands of women, often healers, midwives and those living outside societal norms, were persecuted.
Their “crime” wasn’t evil.
It was independence.
It was knowledge.
It was power that couldn’t be controlled.
The message became clear: To be safe, a woman must be small. Quiet. Agreeable.
And that message didn’t disappear. It just evolved.
Even now, women who:
Speak their truth
Set firm boundaries
Own their intuition
Are often labeled as difficult, intimidating, or “too much.” Sometimes they even get called a not-so-nice 5 letter word.
Sound familiar?
The Archetypes of the Dark Feminine
The dark feminine has always existed, even if it’s been misunderstood.
You can see her reflected in powerful archetypes across cultures:
Lilith – The embodiment of independence and unapologetic selfhood
Hecate – The keeper of intuition, magic and the crossroads
Kali – The force of destruction that clears the way for rebirth
The Morrigan – Sovereignty, power and fierce truth
These aren’t just myths or distant figures.
They are mirrors.
Each one reflects a part of you that has always been there: waiting to be acknowledged, honored and reclaimed.
How the Fear Still Shows Up Today
Even if you’ve never consciously thought about the “dark feminine,” you’ve likely felt its suppression.
It shows up when:
You hold back your truth to keep the peace
You ignore your intuition and later regret it
You feel guilty for setting boundaries
You question your emotions instead of trusting them
It shows up in the quiet moments when you know something deep inside… but talk yourself out of it.
And over time, that disconnection creates a feeling so many women experience: Feeling lost. Disconnected. Not fully like themselves.
But the truth is: you’re not lost.
You’ve just been taught to disconnect from your power.
To dim who you really are.
Reclaiming the Dark Feminine
Reclaiming the dark feminine isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about returning to who you’ve always been.
It can be simple. Gentle. Intentional.
You might begin by:
Listening to your intuition instead of dismissing it
Allowing yourself to feel your emotions fully
Setting boundaries without guilt
Exploring shadow work with curiosity instead of fear
Connecting with your inner voice through tarot, journaling, or ritual
Picking up hobbies you dropped because they were “different”
This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about permission.
Permission to take up space.
Permission to trust yourself.
Permission to be whole.
Permission to be YOU!
A Simple Dark Feminine Reclamation Ritual
If you’d like to begin connecting with this energy, here’s a simple practice:
You’ll need:
A candle
Your tarot deck (optional)
A journal
Step 1: Light your candle and take a few deep breaths.
Let yourself arrive fully in the moment.
Step 2: Ask yourself: Where am I holding myself back?
Step 3 (optional): Pull a tarot card and reflect on its message.
Take your time with this. If you’ve been holding yourself back for some time, it may take a little bit for you to open up and learn who you are again.
Step 4: Journal freely. No filters. No judgment. Just truth.
Step 5: Close by thanking yourself for showing up honestly.
This doesn’t need to be complicated.
Your power lives in your willingness to be real with yourself.
Again, this is for you. No one else. Don’t edit yourself as you are journaling. This is about what’s important to you!
You Were Never Meant to Be Small
The dark feminine isn’t something you need to fix.
It’s something you’re meant to remember.
The parts of you that feel intense, intuitive, emotional, powerful…
Those aren’t flaws.
They are your gifts.
You were never too much.
You were never wrong.
You were simply powerful in a world that didn’t know how to hold it.
